May brings the final push for excellence at the end of the school year. If you're researching a topic from home, go to the Michigan Electronic Library, http://www.mel.org/ or the District Follett Destiny site, http://destiny.kentisd.org/ for quality research sites.

People who read frequently are better readers. Sign up for a summer reading program at your local Kent District Library and enter a world of knowledge, adventure, and vocabulary building.
Vistit these sites to find books of particular interest to middle school students:

February 2012

February....so much to celebrate in addition to Valentine's Day!
Celebrate the contributions of African-Americans by exploring Black History Month. There are some wonderful resources on the internet. Visit this site to learn about African-American inventors: http://www.biography.com/tv/classroom/black-history-inventions-and-discoveries. Where would we be without Nathaniel Alexander's invention; the folding chair?
We celebrate President's Day on the third Monday in February. This year that's February 20th. Visit this site to learn about each and every American president: http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents. Why are there 28 days in February anyway? It's because of the Romans.
